What is technological determinism? To what extent is this view accurate? Why should engineers be aware of this concept or attitude toward technology? What are examples of new technologies that were "inevitable" after a certain point? What are examples of tech that has not been created yet, but inevitably will be created? What are examples where a technology designed for one purpose ended up being used for another unforeseen (possibly harmful) application?
Technological determinism tries to associate a link between the current technology available in the society and the society is nature. View of technological determinism is true in terms of the association of technology with its impacts on society. An example of new technology that was inevitable after a certain point was technology that is used for communication such as mobile networking. This is because without the availability of such primitive Technologies it would not have been possible to advance into the society that we are right now. One example of Technology which is not yet created but will be eventually created is the tracking Technology e used to track citizens of a country e for the purpose of national security. One of the major examples of Technology which were designed for one purpose but ended up being used for an unforeseen possibly harmful application is the utilization of nuclear fusion energy in the formation of atomic bombs.
