The development of the internal-combustion engine caused fundamental changes in urban land-use patterns. The transformation from the core-dominated city to the modern suburbanized city took only about 50 years. Given the rapid pace of technological change, it seems likely that some future innovation will cause another transformation of cities. Given your knowledge of science fiction and fact, describe an innovation that would cause fundamental changes in the spatial structure of cities

Expert Solution

The discovery of IC Engines by Nikolaus Otto (working with others) brought a revolution in travel and manufacturing industry which leads to transformation of cities.By the passage of time, this discovery leads to drastic change in urban areas.

Nowadays, the technology is advancing towards electrification due to pollution effected world. Due to government efforts the motor vehicles companies are introducing BSVI engines that causes lesser pollution as compared to BSIV engines which were used earlier.

So, this electrification will lead country and world to a cleaner environment and surroundings. This will make cities more advanced and cleaner . As the electric vehicles increase in market the motor emissions will decrease. Hence the use of electrification along with clean energy uses will improve air quality by reducing air emissions. Therefore it will bring a change in overall structure of a city i.e. a city with more efficiency, more clean, advanced technology, lesser health issues due to pollution ( especially Delhi) leading to higher standard of living.

But it also needs time as in India, the set up of charging station needs time to be established at different places. Even set up of charging stations to reduce cost of vehicles is more challenging as compared to introducing new electric vehicles.

But surely, upcoming generation is going to feel this technology and going into a new era.

A subbasin in Mississippi has a predominant urban land use (high density development) under soils with a hydrologic soil group D and a potential abstraction of 0.53-in. Analyses of flow data indicate that for a 6-hr runoff event the flow of the unit hydrograph linearly increased to reach a peak of 9.6 ft3/s in 8 hours. As well, the time that takes runoff to travel from headwaters to outlet is 12-hr. Considering the recession phase of the hydrograph in also...

During the power stroke of an internal combustion engine, the air-fuel mixture is ignited and the expanding hot gases push on the piston. Fuel efficiency is maximized in this process when the ignited gas is as hot as possible, the gas expands allowing a maximum amount of work to be done, and cooled exhaust gas is released at the end of the cycle. Assuming the engine exhibits the highest efficiency possible, which of the following statements concerning the exhaust gas...
