McDonalds Maintain Mechanistic Structure, as with this structure, we can see that activities are performed in repetitive way, further such tasks or activities are approximately similar at every outlet of McDonalds. Such tasks are well designed and require associates to perform, again, as because, tasks are well designed and defined, each tasks could be small unites and can be executed in simple way. Further, they have created vertical communication to support their hierarchical management activities. Usually communication flows from top to downwards. Decision making is centralized and top management has crucial role on it. Organization has some strategic objective, again, every franchisee and partners have their own goals and objective, these required to be aligned with strategic objective of McDonalds.

What are the advantages and disadvantages if McDonalds were to adopt a more organic design form?

Advantages:

McDonalds can adopt organic design form, as it has several advantages, with organic design form, McDonalds can keep strong emphasis on problem solving, creativity, Innovation, flexibility and adaptability. Such organization becomes more adaptive to support product changes, employees are usually empowered by the organizational leadership team. Employees perform experiment, research, bring innovation and creativity. With such gesture, organization can build uniqueness in their every approach. Here, organization brings collaborative role that supports and helps employees to adopt productive changes and keep their mind in process improvement and innovation.

  

Disadvantages:

Few are the disadvantages happen when McDonalds adopt such organic design form, these are like:

  • Decision making process could be tough, as leadership team empowers their team member to work on creativity, be focused on research and development, team members can build decision on their own, however, there could be probability of more conflicts, hence, decision making process could go tougher.
  • Team members become more independent and they are highly focused on their own tasks. Hence, there could be situation like reducing team spirit, poor coordination among team members.
  • Here, Team members are getting empowered and they have proven expertise, hence, Organization needs to pay more administrative cost, operational cost to keep such experts.
  • With organic structure form, Human relations could be spoiled, developing cultural work environment could become tough in such context.
