Two very long slender rods of the same diameter are given. One rod is of aluminum and has a thermal conductivity k1=200W/ (m.0C), but the thermal conductivity k2 of the other rod is not known. To determine the thermal conductivity of the other rod, one end of each rod is thermally attached to a metal surface which is maintained at a constant temperature T0. Both rods are losing heat by convection with a heat transfer coefficient h into the ambient air at T∞. The surface temperature of each rod is measured at various distances from the hot base surface. The temperature of the aluminum rod at x1=40cm from the base is the same as that of the rod of unknown thermal conductivity at x2=20cm from the base. Determine the thermal conductivity of k2 of second rod.
this question is from chapter "FINS"
we need to study the temperature profile of fins or can be taken from databook also.
