2. Because Chapter 14 HDEV focuses largely on relationships and social development we must evaluate how people choose or choose not to pair up. Please start your post by reflecting on whether or not you think you will get married. What are the reasons you personally would make the decision to marry or not marry? If you are already married, what were the reasons that convinced you to marry the person you chose? What is homogamy and what role does that play in mate selection? What are some of the other factors that the text suggests contribute to mate selection? How do your reasons align with the reasons that have been uncovered in academic research?
I think i will not get married in the future, but earlier i had marriage in mind. The reason for making this decision is that i value my freedom and i don't want harm my freedom. Marriage will be a lifelong responsibility which i am not ready to commit. I cannot fathom the idea of living with one person the rest of my life, as i think that after a certain stage and time the attraction level and the excitement of the relationship goes down. Homogamy plays a very important role in mate selection as in many culture it is the first criteria of selection that the person should belong to the same or similar cultural or ethnic background. Other factors for mate selection are parent image, which is how close the person resembles our parents. Proximity, which means how close geographically the the person is to us. Role expectations, which is what kind of role do you expect from the partner. For me, i think the partner should be as similar to me as much as possible, this will ensure that the compatibility is high.
