What has been your experience with friends’ influence?
Has it ever led you to do something you wish you had not done?
To what extent has it been positive or negative?
THIS IS PSYCHOLOGY
There is a quote by Jim Rohn that goes along the lines of, “You are an average of the 5 people you spend the most amount of time with.” From my personal experience, this couldn’t hold more true. I am easily influenced by people around me, particularly those that I admire and respect. I therefore tend to be quite choosy about those I allow myself to become good friends with. A lot of these tendencies arise from my need to grow into a better human being, for which I find positive peer influence to a an important factor.
I would say that my experience thus far has been both, positive and negative. During my adolescent years, their influence was quite negative as it resulted in me falling into trouble with school authorities quite frequently. Over the years however, I have been able to distinguish between favourable and unfavourable behaviours by my peers, and allow myself to be influenced by those which I desire to possess. Sometimes, however, these may not be positive.
