What does President Washington warn the country against in his Farewell Address?
In his letter President Washington included three main principles:-
(i) Importance of unity:- President Washington urged American not to put their personal interest above the nation interest. He declared that " You have in a common cause fought and triumphed together ". All the resources used by the citizens are for joint efforts to fought common enemy.
(ii) The ' worst enemy ' of government: loyalty to party over nation:- President Washington warned the American that party loyalty or regional loyalty over nation loyalty are the biggest danger of the nation because it harmed the common interest of the nation. It foster the spirit of revenge and enable the rise of unprincipled leaders who destroys the nation.
(iii) Danger of Foreign entanglement:- President Washington warned that regionalism and partisanship leads to foreign influence and bigger scam. On the other hand he urged to make good & healthy relationship with other nations, but they believed that Europe had its own complicated interest and U.S should keep away from European affairs. He stated that those foreign relations are good which maintain national integrity and stability.
