Sexual dimorphism occurs when males are distinctly different from females in traits other than reproductive organs. In many species, there is no dimorphism and males resemble females in most traits. If the two sexes appear phenotypically identical, in a short essay (100-150 words), explain what you might conclude (at least tentatively) about their reproductive behaviors.
Sexual dimorphism occurs when different traits irrespective of reproductive organs are different in both males and female. This is type of evolved characteristics that animals have developed during the course of time. No dimorphism is being found in many animals and two sexes appear to be phenotypically identical but could possibly have some genotypic changes in their production of sex cells or the entity that carries out the similar phenotypical conditions in their offsprings. This could be well understood by the fact that organism might show all the similar characteristics, but the genetic composition might differ.For example many birds, or earthworms do not show sexual dimorphism but the species could have different characteristic odour, or breeding pattern which different than the other half of that pair .This results due to polygynandry.Both the sexes are allowed to mate with many individuals which leaves their selection by natural means rather than sexual selection . Due to lack of any sexual selection, they appear identical to one another.So there is no such pressure to be identified for certain characteristics of male or female. So their reproductive behaviour is not evaluated on the basis of their non sexual dimorphism.
