Does the government have the right to inform partners of people
with STIs about their status? What about life threatening STIs or
STIs that can compromise future
fertility?
Although family, sex, children comes under individual rights, the government has the responsibility to maintain the physical, mental and social wellbeing of its citizens. STIs along with other communicable diseases are dangerous and people with STIs have the moral responsibility to inform their partners with whom they will have intimate relationship. Governments on the other hand have the responsibility of protecting its citizens from any communicable diseases for the wellbeing of its citizens. So, in my opinion, governments should inform STIs to the partners of the affected in order to protect themselves from getting affected. It could be any transmittable disease because one shouldn’t spread a life threatening disease knowingly. If the STI prevents future child birth that too should be informed to the partners of the affected as well because people when they get together, think of having children and they shouldn’t be affected.
