Ransomware attack has resulted from the use of computers to commit a criminal act. Ransomware refers to is malicious software that prevents or restricts a user from accessing a computer system by freezing the computer’s screen or encrypting the computer files unless a ransom is paid. Ransomware can infect computers via emails, websites or malicious online advertisements. In my view, this is a very serious issue. A prime example is the impact of WannaCry, a May 2017 worldwide cyberattack by the WannaCry ransomware cryptoworm that affected 200,000 individuals. It is suggested that users should always be vigilant when using computers. In addition to the installation of anti-virus software and firewalls, users should also develop habits such as conducting a regular anti-virus scan to detect malware attacks, restricting unnecessary services and functions in computer systems and refraining from visiting suspicious websites or downloading any files from suspicious websites.
