POLITICS- What are the stages, which together allow Congress to remove a President from office? For which offenses may this process be initiated and how do the roles of the two houses of Congress differ? YOU MUST PROVIDE EXAMPLES TO SUPPORT YOUR ANSWER

• Through the impeachment process.The President must first be impeached by the House of Representatives. The House Judicial committee appoints a special prosecutor who presents the case to the members of the House. If the House votes by a simple majority to impeach, it is sent to the Senate for trial.
• The Senate selects a panel with a prosecutor and puts the President on trial. After the trial the Senate votes. If a 2/3 majority find him guilty, he is removed from office.
• A president may be impeached if Congress becomes convinced that he has broken the law or otherwise acted inapropriately while in office. Impeachment is done by a majority vote in the House of Representatives. Once they have voted to impeach; the Presidents alleged wrongdoings are investigated and then the Senate votes. If two thirds of the senators agree that he should be removed from office he is required to step down immediatley, otherwise he remains in office.
• Presidents that have been impeached are; Andrew Jackson: impeached by the House but acquitted by the Senate . William (Bill) Clinton: also impeached but aquitted . Therefore, there have been two impeached, none removed.
• A president can be removed from office if he is grosslyunder-performing or if he commits a very serious offense such asmurder. An under-performing president can face a vote of noconfidence.
• Impeachment -Smooched-Impeachment is currently the only way that Congress may constitutionally remove a president from office.
• The U.S. Senate and House of Representatives are the two houses of the Congress, and together carry out the legislative authority granted to them by the Constitution. They are representative bodies, structured differently as part of a compromise struck during the Constitution's drafting, and each house must approve a proposed law before it may be sent to the President for his signature or veto.
• The House of Representatives is a 435-member body that meets in the south end of the Capitol building. Its members are chosen from districts apportioned by population - so, for example, California has many more Members than South Dakota, since the former has so many more residents - and are elected every two years. The Constitution specifically provides that the House has the sole power of impeachment, or of legal removal from office of federal officials that have committed "high crimes and misdemeanors," and also directs that any bills that raise revenue must originate in the House.  
• The Senate, on the other hand, is a 100-member body that meets in the north end of the Capitol building. Each state has two Senators, no matter how large or small the state might be, and Senators are elected for six-year terms. The Constitution directs that the Senate shall conduct impeachment trials, and that it should provide "advice and consent" to Presidential appointments and on treaties. The Senate is designed to be a bit more removed from the popular will than the House.
