Schools provide health services to a large number of school students. The school has to maintain records of school students and wellness program and the safety activities. Parents also took part in assisting behavior that makes the children maintain a healthy life. Teachers should take effort in school health services in promoting health and to provide a safe environment and involved in the School Health program. School Health Nurse play an active role in disease management and provide treatment. she concentrates more on attention-deficit disorder, hyperactivity disorder, and behavioral health problems. She mediates between the pediatrician and the students. She provides first-aid treatment to the injured students. She conducts school program on immunization, obesity prevention, and health education.
School-Based Health centers increased the access of school health services to the school students. It minimizes the financial barrier during emergency situations. Health centers provide an environment that addresses the health issues and increases the well-being of the school health. It supports and provides coordinated services. The primary care providers address the challenges of school students health issues. Health screening program helps to detect the disease and to reduce the hospital cost. The coordinated activities of community partnership and the School-Based Health centers improving the overall health of school students.
Registered School Nurse administer safe efficient medication. It is one of the important activities performed by the school health. School Nurse decreases the medication error by following medication administration policies and procedures. She has the responsibility for administration of evidenced-based medication and management of chronic disease and use of controlled substances and increases the safety of school students.
The physical environment is an important factor in the school. Good environment decreases the injuries and the infectious disease. Small classes allow the school teachers to concentrate more on school students. Adequate lighting is necessary for the well-being of school students. Proper temperature and adequate ventilation provide comforts to the students. Noise control measures should be followed. Good sanitation and cleanliness prevent the infectious diseases.
The School is responsible for providing safety to the students during school health activities. Teachers have the primary responsibility in school safety program and to report if any injuries occur. The teacher should look after the potential safety hazards and follow the safety guidelines. Establish a safe transportation and the involvement of the community in prevention of accidents by providing a safe environment. Playgrounds must be safe and equipment should be assessed and replaced periodically. Emergency planning should be arranged in case of disaster.
School should take measures to prevent child abuse. The teachers, parents, School Health Nurse, other teaching aids should involve in reporting of child abuse which is against legal laws. Child protective services should take care of children based on abuse law's and the child's age, condition, and the home environment.
Environmental tobacco smoke cause health problems in non-smokers. Especially, the children are at high risk of respiratory infection, asthma, and ear infection. The school environment should be tobacco free. Promote health education to students on antitobacco activities and importance of healthy habits.
School Promoting healthy nutrition habits and also offering breakfast to the school students. Encourage students to have healthy food based on the dietary guidelines. The National School Lunch Program and Special Milk program are implemented in order to meet the nutritional needs of school children. The wellness policy also meets the nutritional education and physical activity of the school children.
