Three different types of reflector antennas are:
1.Parabolic Reflector Antenna
2.Plane Reflector Antenna
3.Corner Reflector Antenna
1.Parabolic Reflector
Antenna
- This antenna uses a curved surface with cross-section of a
parabola to direct the radio waves.
- the overall radiation charaxteristics like antenna
pattern, antenna efficiency, polarization etc of a reflector can be
improved if the structural configuration of its surface is
upgraded
- parabolic antennas are used as high gain antennas for point to
point communications
- These are widely used in microwave relay links, wireless WAN or
LAN and in aeroplanes and guided missiles
2.Plane Reflector
Antenna
- It is a simplest type of antenna.
- It consist of primary antenna and reflecting surface introduced
to direct energy in a desired direction.
- Position of radiating source and its relative to thereflective
surface can be used to control the radiating properties like
pattern,impudence and activity.
3.Corner Reflector
Antenna
- It is a type of directional antenna used at VHF and UHF
frequencies.
- Feed elements for it is always a dipole or an array of
collinear dipoles placed parallel to the vertex .
- Greater bandwidth is obtained when the feed elements are
cylindrical or biconical dipoles instead of thin wires.
- These are especially used when the wavelength is large compared
to tolerable physical dimensions.
