Answer
Three types of dense connective tissue are :
- Dense regular connective tissue
- Dense irregular connective tissue
- Elastic connective tissue
Features :
1) Dense regular connective tissue
- It is made up of collagen fibers that are arranged
parallel to each other.
- The primary type of cells present in
fibroblast.
- This tissue contains very little amount of elastin
fibers.
- Example : Tendons and Ligaments
2) Dense irregular connective tissue
- It is also primarily made up of collagen fibers and contains
fibroblast cells.
- But, the arrangement of collgen fibers is
irregular.
- This tissue functions to resist tension.
- Dermis (second layer of the skin) is made up
of dense irregular connective tissue.
3) Elastic connective tissue
- This tissue contains less amount of fibroblast cells
and collagen fibers.
- The fibroblast cells secrete elastin
fibers.
- The elastic fibers provides the ability to stretch and
recoil its original shape.
- Example : Tissue in lungs (helps in inhalation
and exhalation)
