ECG or electrocardiogram is the representation of the electrical activity of the heart. Electrodes are placed on the skin and the limbs to trace the cardiac activity.
There are three main components of an ECG. The P wave which denotes the depolarization of Atrium. The QRS complex which shows the depolarization f the ventricles and the T wave which denotes the repolarization of the ventricles and the cycle continues.
The best way to calculate the Heart rate from an ECG is by calculating the interval of QRS complex which is denoted as numerically in blue color on the graph.
Step 1
Calculate the small boxes between a QRS complex. One small box measures 40 millisecond. The number of small box is first calculated between a QRS complex and then is multiplied to 40ms(which is the measurement of a small box in the ECG char)t. Then the value which we get from the multiplication is then divided by 60000 which give the heart rate of the patient.
For example: If you get 22 small boxes in between two QRS complex then
22*40=880 then 880 is divided to 60000, 60000/880 which gives the value as 68 beats per minute.
