SUDDEN INFANT DEATH----- It is defined as death of infant that occur suddenly and unexpectedly in <1 year olds which is not explained after investigation or autopsy called as sudden infant death syndrome.

MATERNAL RISK FACTORS ARE -------

1. Use of tobacco ( maternal smoking).

2. Alcohol or drug use.

3. Lack of parental care.

4. Low socioeconomic status.

5. Preterm delivery or low birth weight of infant.

6. Side sleeping or sleeping with soft pillows.

7. Young maternal age to conceive.

8. Some infections like respiratory .

9. Sleeping on stomach.

10. Overheating of infant during pregnancy.

11. Brain abnormalities.

12. Bed sharing , falling asleep.

PREVENTION FROM RISK OF SUDDEN DEATH OF INFANT---------

1. Avoid smoking , alcohol consumption or any kind of drug intake without prescription during pregnancy.

2 . Donot overheat baby in pregnancy.

3. Use firm mattress for sleeping .

4. Proper nutrional care should be given to mother.

5. After birth of baby proper breast feeding and maternal attention should be given.

6. Infant should be given all recommend vaccinations up to date.

7. Place baby to sleep on their back and use crib bare.

8. Pacifiers should be used.

9. Provide education to parents regarding disadvantages of smoking , alcohol .

10.proper holding of baby , dressing comfortably regularly.
