Sudden sniffing death syndrome(SDSS) is where inhalants cause euphoric feeling and injuries, asyphixia, and other symptoms in the body. These include household products from inhalers, nail polish removers, paints etc.Inhaled chemicals are absorbed through the lungs and it causes damage to the brain and other parts of the body. This is usually found among teens and children. This syndrome causes a heart failure resulting in irregular heartbeart caused by stress or strenous activity of nature of the inhalant that is used.Children have a habit of getting addicted to inhalants and this could pose as danger as the chemicals in the inhalants affect the body.Parents must be aware if any child at home has formed a habit and prevent it from further damage to the child. This is common among children and teens who dont have access to drugs. The household products who have alchohol content could also be consumed to get high. There are three main categories of inhalants, they are gases, solvents and medical anesthetics. The anaesthetic gases present in the inhalers appears to sensitise the user of adrenaline and sudden surge of adrenaline may cause fatal cardiac arythmia. It is important to address this issue as to find out why it is addictive .Preventive measures can also be taken in schools where teachers advise the students about the ill and hazardous effects of inhaling such products.
