How is socioeconomic status associated with the likelihood of children engaging in antisocial behavior? Describe three factors that may influence this association. Provide reasoning and supportive examples.
Various studies have concluded a correlation between low socioeconomic status and high anti social behaviour. However, intensity or strength of this relation has been lo g debated and not very clearly understood.
One of recent researches have brought a new dimension to this relationship. It suggested that there is direct relationship between socioeconomic status and high Incidence of antisocial behaviour among children but this relationship is not linear. That means people at extremes I.e. extremely deprived and highly rich donot follow this relationship , while people in middle follow the pattern of relationship.
However this relationship ship can be moderated or mediated by many factors.
a) Sex . Generally boys are more prone to antisocial behavior than girls. Hence a girl will be less prone to antisocial behavior than boy in same SES.
b)informer. If child himself report the antisocial behavior then he ia less likely to be affected by SES .IF parents or teacher report and not child then child have stri ger relationship ship with ses.
C) Behavioral subtype. Aggressive behavior are more inheritable and hence stronger relationship to SES than non aggressive behavior.
