1. What is the role of perspiration during homeostasis?
2. What is the body doing when it feels out of breath when exercising? Is it failing to maintain oxygen homeostasis?
3. What does blood glucagon do in maintaining blood glucose homeostasis?
4. How do warm-blooded animals that don't sweat maintain temperature homeostasis so they don't overheat?
1. Perspiration is the way of losing heat from the body. It is the evaporation of the sweat that leads to losing of heat from the body .It is done by sweat glands present in the body. Hyper/hypothermia can lead to dysfunction of enzymes in the body. Also it can lead to changes in the bodys ph.So perspiration has an important role in homeostasis.
2. During excercise various changes occur in our body
skeltal muscles are in the highest need for oxygen during excercise. To supply extra oxygen to muscles, lungs start to breathe heavier and faster
heart increases to supply more blood to the tissues. It also helps in new blood vessel formation. This is why hypertension decreases with excercise.
Bloood is being diverted from stomach & intestines to the skeltal muscles to provide it with more blood and more oxygen.
Adrenal glands secrete stress hormone such as adrenaline, which helps the body to mobilise more energy stores.
So in times of excercise body has various mechanisms to provide body with excess oxygen and required nutrients. So body does not fail to maintain oxygen homeostasis.
3. glucagon is released by the alpha cells of the pancreas. when blood sugar lowers, the pancreas secretes glucagon. It instructs the liver to release stored glucose and it increase the serum glucose levels.
4. Panting is the mechanism by which warm blooded animals that dont sweat releases its body temperature.Animals rapidly breathes in through the nose and releases it through the mouth. As it passes through the tongue the saliva and moisture evaporates, cooling down the tongue and circulate the cooler temperature throughout the body.
