  • Puberty is the most critical phase in a teenagers life, its a roller coaster ride.Right from physiological changes to emotional changes everything is happening at a rapid pace. The physical changes makes adolescent become more foused on their self image. This the time they become extremely conscious about themselves and how they look since they are meeting new people in school. Girls become obsessed about their body, their weight, facial hair, body hair etc.Eating disorders result at a high rate during this phase because of low self esteem issues regading how one looks.
  • It can also lead to depression and social isolation among teenagers and in extreme cases suicidal attempts and drug abuse also.Body shaming is extremely common in this age which can have adverse effects on teenagers and their behaviours. This is common in boys as well, somone having a skinny structure could be body shamed by other more physcially strong bys who think muscles makes a "man".
  • This can affect relationships with parents as well, since teenagers feel ashamed to discuss it with them and can develop erratic behaviours, which parents have to take care of. Parents need to be friends and make their child comfortable in sharing whatever they want to.
  • The hardest thing for teens is to be accepted by others, they want to be liked and be center of attention,be part of social groups. The hardest thing is to adjust with ones self image and accept oneself the way the are.
