3. Can our verbal behavior affect the way people perceive our physical attractiveness? What verbal behavior might cause people to perceive us as less physically attractive?
The notion of physical attractiveness or attraction has a multi fold dimension. It is not JUST the physical appearance of a person that renders them attractive. Though, the first point of attraction towards a person might be their looks, but this is not a long lasting characteristic. For a person to remain attractive, there are other traits that also play a major role. An important part of attractiveness towards a person is the kind of intimacy that a person might be offering to the other person.
verbal cues, in this place, plays a
very important role. However physically attractive a person is, if
the manner in which they speak do not appeal to a person, there
would be a definite reduction in their attraction quotient. In
order to be intimate with someone, the most important aspect is
communication. And in order to have good communication, it is
important that the person has verbal abilities that suit the need
of another person. This also means, that the most attractive
feature of a person is not their looks, but something that is more
under their control, which is their words.
verbal behavior that might perceive one to be less attractive are:
- aggression
- disrespect towards the other person
- constant talking and non consideration for the other person
- talking completely out of context
