Give an example of each (Advocacy and Lobbying).
2) What are the two types of lobbying?
2a) Give an example of each and describe how they are different.
Advocacy and lobbying:
Both the terms advocacy and lobbying main theme was same, but the term lobbying which can refers to influencing the government and its leaders and processes are the process of advocacy differentiate by attempting to cause political action, using methods such as education and public campaigns with aim to influence decision makers..
The lobbing can gives large and medium corporations unnecessary power. It enables movement of money from the lower classes, to upper class for their spending needs. It is similar in some way as a legalised corruption than a fairplay, since corporations, especially the large ones with more corporate strength always spend higher than even a bunch of citizens. The Interest groups involved in Lobbying, need a great sum of money, piling day by day, in order to lobby successfully, which usually come from contributions and donations, which further can supposed to be originated from bribery/ corruption/ theft/ fraud etc. illegal activities.
Lobbying may begin to infringe upon others’ freedoms in many ways. It influences legislators or other public/ government officials in favour of a specific party/ reason/ goal (monetary or non-monetary). Sometimes lobbying can further result in violence and even death casualties.
These people can let their country destroy itself. Hence, for above all reasons, lobbying can make a country’s government just not shiver or tumble, but destroy it internally at once, or can slowly corrode its economic growth, if it prevails continuously.
Example of Non-profit advocacy and lobbying: Women welfare non-profit organizations: These are the organizations which use to organize women welfare activities so that women get the appropriate support for the misconduct happens with them. In India, we have many non profit women welfare groups which support the women victims for the mis-conduct happens with them. These social non-profit groups organize the necessary advocacy and lobbying for the major women issues like rape cases, sexual harassments, inequality in work place, and unequal rights for women in country etc. Thus such organization helps in building the social support system for the women, so that they feel comfortable and they can get the necessary required social support for the same. These groups are organized and work on the principle and practices of non-profit management organizations.
There are two types of lobbying:
A. Direct lobbying: when an issue is technical or otherwise not very salient to the public, when the issue is more one-sided. It is communicating your views to a member or any government employee who may help to develop legislation.
B. Grassroots lobbying: It is the effort to influence public opinion to accept the group’s definition of its issue, and urge citizens to contact their elected officials. It is trying to influence the public to express a particular view to their legislators about a specific legislative proposal.
Grassroots lobbying methods: Email, Letter Writing, Phone Call, Meeting
Ex: Broadcast media campaigns (e.g., network TV, radio, newspapers.)to encourage a positive image of your group. Example: BP ads about the Olympics
