A variable is generally used to define some unknown value. Examples =x, y, z etc any letters can be used to define a variable. Different types of variables are
1. Categorical variables : these kind of variables are used to define some categories. Examples - different brands of men's outfit like Raymond's, Louis Phillips, Hoffmen etc.
2. Continuous variables : these types of variables contain an infinite number of values. Examples = times, weight etc
3. Discrete variable : this type of variable contains only some finite values. Examples = number of persons in a classroom.
4. Ordinal variables : this variable indicates order of any categorical variable. It is a special type of categorical variables. Examples = temperature of a place like hot, medium, cold
5. Dependent variable : any variables whose value increases or decreases according as increase or decrease to any other variable then that variable is called dependent variable. Example: number of ice cream sells increase In summer but decrease in winter so number of ice-cream and weather is dependent variable.
6. Independent variable : the change of value of this variable doesn't depend upon any other variable. Example = the weight of a person.
7. Binary variable : this variable can take only two possible values. It takes either 0 or 1, yes or no, tall or short etc. Example = whether a person drinks regularly is a binary variable
8. Random variables : these are associated with random experiments and give outcomes of random events. Examples : number of head obtained in tossing a coin 10 times.
These are the most common types of variables we use in our study but there are many more variables which are not so commonly used.
