Explain the basics of how does changing temperatures alter oxygen transport and exchanges.
Considering the question is on oxgen transport in the body,
Oxygen transport occurs mainly in two basic steps of reversible loading and unloading of hemoglobin with oxygen.Hemoglobin is loaded with oxygen as it passes through the pulmonary capillaries and then it is transported to the perpheral tissues where the oxygen is unloaded. However, Hemoglobing affintiy towards oxygen or its bnding capacity with oxygen is affected by factors as Temperature, pH,metabolism .
Temperature affects the affinity or binding strength of hemoglobin with oxygen.Particularly, increased temperature decreases the affinity of oxyhemoglobin for oxygen .That is the reason it unloads oxygen due to increased temperatures in metabolizing tissues .If we can go through the oxygen-hemoglobin dissocation curve, we can observe how various factors affects the oxygenhemoglobin dissocation curve .
Oxyhemoglobin dissociation curve explains the relation between the partial pressure of
oxygen on X-axis and oxygen saturation on Y-axis. One see the graph and how all the paramters affect the oxygen saturation along with the temperature parameter.
