Ans:Leiningers theory involves knowing and understanding different cultures with respect to nursing and health illness caring practices beliefs and values with the goal to provide meaningful and efficacious nursing care services to people. The major premise of the theory is that there are differences and similarities in transcultural care knowledge and practices that can be discovered which will lead to establishment of body relevant transcultural nursing knowledge as guided by nursing practice.Lineagers culture care theory attempts to provide culturally congruent nursing care through cognitively based assistive, supportive facilitative or enabling act or decisions that are mostly tailor made to fit with individuals, groups or institutions cultural values, beliefs and life ways .The intent of the care is to fit with or have a beneficial meaning and health outcomes for people of different or similar cultural backgrounds. Leninger developed new terms for the basic concepts of her theory which includes:

  • Caring is an action or activity directed towards providing care
  • cultute care is the multiple aspects of culture that influence and help a person or group to improve their human condition or deal with illness or death.

The purnell model for cultural competence is a broadly utilised model for teaching and studying intercultural competence especially within the nursing profession.
