Will we someday look back on the 20th century as a time when we used an "ancient form of power transmission called electricity"? Are there better ways to carry power? Fuel pipelines? Lasers? Anything else? How important is power transmission?

Expert Solution

Cannot comment about the far future we can say that electricity is one of the greatest discovery by human. Of course as the time passes the technology get advanced and we would be having a better ways of energy transmission and it might seems that electricity is an obsolete ways to transmit power but of course it's not going to be sooner.

Now coming to the question that better ways to carry power pipelines are not a best way to transmit power in fact electricity is better than pipeline in my sense because there are a lot of problems or dangers that involves with the pipeline but your laser could be a better option because it transmit the power with the speed of light and with effectively no power loss which is the use blessing for society.

Power transmission is a very crucial thing for any civilization to grow and sustain because power cannot be generated at every place so it should be generated at some specific place and then it would be transmitted to every part of the society or a place where the human live this would be of course the cost efficient and society friendly so ofcourse power transmission is a very important thing.

Erickson believed that old age is a time during which we look back on our lives to reflect on what we have accomplished with the recognition that we are unable to really do things differently. In the early 20th century, the French Canadian microbiologist Félix d’Hérelle used a virus called a bacteriophage (“phage”) to successfully treat some diseases caused by bacteria, such as dysentery and cholera. Subsequent experiments with “phage therapy” yielded mixed results; however, and enthusiasm quickly waned—especially once antibiotics became available in the 1940s. The therapy is not currently approved in the United States. Phage therapy involves obtaining a pure culture of a disease-causing bacterium and exposing samples of the culture to different...

For thousands of years, up to the 20th century, the land of Palestine was a homeland for Christians, Jews, and Muslims. In the 20th century, the British got involved in the Middle East in several ways, culminating in the attempt to make Palestine a “homeland” for European Jews. The paradox of thrift is an idea that was popularized by the early 20th century economist John Maynard Keynes. It says that when individuals try to save more (such as during uncertain economic times), it will lead to a fall in aggregate demand and hence in income. Keynes was arguing that what seems to be a good idea – i.e. thrift – produces a bad outcome – i.e. a fall in income. -Using the equation describing goods market equilibrium, explain...

In the notes I argue that the macro economy might have been more self-correcting in the 19th century than in the 20th century. What do I think changed by 1930 that made the Great Depression world different from the world of Adam Smith? Why was this change important?
