1. Was housing in independent living appropriate before this patient's fall
2. What, if anything, could have been done to reduce the risk or prevent this fall?
Fall one of the major problem in geriatric clients leading to hospital admission and treatment. There are various reasons resulting in fall like housing, old-age, medical conditions.
1) Independent living is a community or housing set up where people who are above 55 years can reside.They are permitted to use third party health care services during need. Therefore housing in independent living is appropriate for certain people and not for others and it depends on internal and external factors of the patient.
2)The following could have been done to reduce the fall
*Using fall prevention monitor
*Regular exercise to improve gait
*Good ventilation
*Proper nutrition diet to have good stamina
*Removing trip hazard
*Low bed and clutter free bedroom
*Handle bar,side bars at all walking areas
* Review medication
*Skid proof floor
*Proper fitting footwear
*Staff to use gait belt
*Regular vision checkup and use of eye glasses
