1. What was used before enzymes, if anything before celiac disease and lactose intolerance.

2. Discuss why lactase are being used:Does it have higher yields and less waste?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Celiac disease patients gut lining cells will be damaged. In the gut lining there will be mini projections like structures called as vili which called as border brush in which lactase enzyme will be produced. Hence it is called as brush border enzymes. Since celiac disease gut lining is damaged, lactase will not be produced and lactose cannot be digested if the consume milk or dietary products

Hence lactase suppliments will be given to the celiac disease patients

Before lactase enzyme suppliment treatments, gluten free diet was being given . Gluten free diet helps in regrowth of gut lining hence the lactase enzymes can be produced.

2. Lactase enzyme catalyses the degradation of lactose into glucose . Lactose intolerant patients will be prescribed with foods supplimented with lactase.

Lactase tretment is the best for celiac patients having lactose intolernace since it gives higher yield in faster time. Treatments to make the stomach lining to secrete the lactase is not highly effective and it takes longer time.

Hence lactase supplimented food is the instant treatment
