Eosinophil are a type of white blood cells and one of the immune system and it is responsible for combating multicellular parasites and certain infections in vertebrates.Along with mast cells and basophils, they also control mechanisms associated with allergy and asthma. They are granulocytes that develop during hematopoiesis in the bone marrow before migrating into blood, after which they are terminally differentiated and do not multiply.These cells are acid loving due to their large acidophilic cytoplasmic granules, which show their affinity for acids by their affinity to coal tar dyes.They are normally transparent, it is this affinity that causes them to appear brick-red after staining with eosin, a red dye, using the Romanowsky method.[4]In normal individuals, eosinophils make up about 1–3% of white blood cells, and are about 12–17 micrometres in size with bilobed nuclei.
Highl level of eosinophils can lead to a condition known as eosinophilia. When eosinophils are higher than 1,500, this is known as hypereosinophilic syndrome. As normal levels of eosinophils can be zero, a low level of eosinophils isn't usually considered a medical problem after one test.
Parasitic diseases and allergic reactions to medication are among the more common causes of eosinophilia. Hypereosinophila that causes organ damage is called hypereosinophilic syndrome. This syndrome tends to have an unknown cause or results from certain types of cancer, such as bone marrow or lymph node cancer.
High leval of basophil can be caused by infections, severe allergies, or an overactive thyroid gland. An abnormally high basophil level is called basophilia. It can be a sign of chronic inflammation in your body. Or it can mean that a condition is causing too many white blood cells to be produced in your bone marrow.Basophils account for less than three percent of your white blood cells. Normal level of basophils is 0 to 300 basophils per microliter of blood
If neutrophil counts in the blood is high, it can mean you have an infection or are under a lot of stress. It can also be a symptom of more serious conditions. Neutropenia, or a low neutrophil count, can last for a few weeks or it can be chronic.
The high count in the neutrophils are involved in cancer development and tumor progression. In most cases, large numbers of TANs are associated with advanced disease and poor prognosis for cancer patients.
In adults, a count of 1,500 neutrophils per microliter of blood or less is considered to be neutropenia, with any count below 500 per microliter of blood regarded as a severe case. In severe cases, even bacteria that are normally present in the mouth, skin, and gut can cause serious infections.
