100 lbmoles of Methane is feed into a partial oxidizer with 160 lbmoles of dry air which also contains water(humidity = 0.050 lb water/lb dry air). The methane partially oxidizes to produce CO according to: CH4 + 3/2 O2 —> CO + 2H2O If the outlet gas contains 45.00% (mole %, wet basis) nitrogen, what is the reaction conversion based on the limiting reactant?

Solutions

Expert Solution

I think the %N2 is wrong because I have done simulation in excel .

for 100% conversion of O2 = %N2 = 45.2722%

nd for 0% conversion of O2 %N2= 47.162

So the Range of N2 is (45.2722 - 47.1642)

Methanol (CH3OH) is produced via the partial oxidization of methane (CH4). The fresh feed contains methane and oxygen that have been mixed in stoichiometric proportions. This feed is mixed with recycle gases. The single-pass conversion of methane is 10.0%. The stream leaving the reactor is passed into a separation process where the entire methanol, and none of the other materials, is removed. All of the remaining materials are recycled to be mixed with the fresh feed. Determine the feed rate...

Methane is burning with minimum amount of air to form the stable products. The premixed methane-air mixture is filled in a leak-proof spherical vessel at an initial pressure of 1 bar and 298 K. The vessel is well insulated to avoid thermal energy interaction with the surroundings. The combustible mixture is ignited at the centre of the vessel using an electrical spark. The energy added to the mixture for ignition is negligible. During the combustion process, the pressure of the combustion...

Methane at 25°C is burned in a boiler furnace with 10.0% excess air. The air enters the burner at a temperature of 100°C. Ninety percent of the methane fed is consumed; the product gas is analyzed and found to contain 10.0 mol CO2 per 1 mol of CO. The exhaust gases exit the furnace at 400°C. Calculate the rate of heat transferred from the furnace, given that a molar flow rate of 100 mol/s CH4 is fed to the furnace.
