Undoubtedly you are experiencing stress as a student
in a nursing program. How would you rate your level
of hardiness?
What statements would demonstrate a hardy
personality in each area (commitment, control,
challenge)?
The First year of the nursing course often proves to be a hard situation for most nurses to adapt with the new environment. As they have to face numerous challenges ,which they have been facing for the first time.Understanding the profession takes time ,lot of skills and patience. That is the reason why most students had to leave the profession in the midst. But for others who have a passion for the field ,enjoys it and continues ,pursuing their dream. For them difficulties are challenges for their professional growth
Nursing education is a challenging stage for a nursing student, this is the time where they have to face so many stressors related to academics such as completing record ,submitting assignments on time, engaging in research activities and to meet other aspects of professional practice such as contact with patients and other health care professionals.Hardy people often exhibit three main characteristics, the belief that they have the ability to control life events(control),able to engage themselves in daily activities(commitment),they believe themselves capable of embracing problems as a challenge to their personal growth.Hardiness helps in combatting stress and can protect students from burnout. This three characteristics gives them a hardy personality and this hardiness is a buffer to stress and has a protective effect against burnout
