You are a nursing student at the XYZ College. It has a 50 percent acceptance rate (half the applicants do not get in). XYZ is a public college. XYZ has decided to implement an affirmative action policy. The college has few students over the age of 50. To encourage more students of that age, every student 50 or older will receive a bonus point. A student's admission is dependent on having 11 points. One earns points for a GPA above a certain score, ACT/SAT score above a certain number, having a letter of recommendation, etc. XYZ also lacks LGBT students, Muslim, and African-American students and is considering offering a bonus point for any student fitting those categories. What is the key moral conflict for XYZ? What social values should XYZ promote here? What diverse populations are involved here, and what are their interests? Do you think XYZ's social action is the correct solution to lack of diversity? Why or why not? Factor the ethics of egoism and utilitarianism into your answer.
The GPA SAT/ACT are the basic point level which considerd on the time of admission at schools and colleges.
The GPA(grade point average) and SAT/ACT are determines one's eligibility on the time of admissions.
Here, the above mensioned college gives bonus point to the students, based on their categories to up lift them. the authority gives bonus points to the students above the age of 50 for encouraging more students like that.in order to obtain the basic level of 11 points they are impimenting certain bonus points to many categories. Besides the normally admitted students the college offers points to the LGBT(lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) students, muslim communiy and african american students etc...
It shows that the authority is willing to accept the divers category of pupil as their students. without any partiality they are ready to accept their students.
The college authority, here take the action of social equality and unity in diversity, for maintaining the equality are admitting the students from different categories. i.e,
The students above50 , the students who scores above GPA, SAT/ACT scorees, the students of LGBT , The students of muslim community, the students of Afro -American etc... At a glance it can be calculated as the secular views of the authority, where as one can blame the authority that there is no need of any such discrimination based on any criteria. there should be variation on the base of average grade percentage or their performance. Any how an authority should promote the students from every hook and corner of the society within their criteria. education should get for everyone , the quality and quantity of education and a chance to break their eligibility should get everyone, so the utility and ethics should be for the goodness of the society
