Be honest. Write about your ageist thoughts. In what ways do you view elderly people in general? Do you ever find yourself frustrated when you are behind them in line at the grocery store, or predicting someone who is driving poorly to be old? Do you think that ageism is a legitimate issue that needs to be addressed in society, or is it just a “politically correct” concern? How might such stereotyping affect those in late adulthood? Ageism is the stereotyping and discrimination against individuals or groups on the basis of their age; ageism can take many forms, including prejudicial attitudes, discriminatory practices, or institutional policies and practices that perpetuate stereotypical beliefs. This is negatively viewed in our societies. But ageism should not be viewed as a negative phenomenon but people should work across societies to aware people about the aging process in a systematic manner that no discrimination takes place on the basis of age.

Elder people are our elders and they should have as much respect as others enjoy. But what we do we try to avoid them in a discriminatory way. I view them as forefronters. Without being them there would have been no existence of us. They provide us what we needed when we were children now its time for us to give them back. At old age care is most important thing for them, so we just need to take care of them as well. Yes they are bit slow, they can't do things at a pace they used to do but we need to keep in mind that one day we will enter that phase also. We need to teach our children to take care of our elders.

Yes I have had many occassions when an elderly person are in quee in front of me to get grocery. It makes me frustrated of their being slow but I never mind and just try understand their age and think about their children that they should have come to the grocery store instead of their parent.

Across societies the issue of ageism is prevalent. And I think it is a legitimate issue that needs intervention of all kinds of people. Each and every individual should come forward and make people aware of the naturalness of ageism like many other things. And stop stereotyping and discrimination on that basis. The importance of elders should be pointed out. We can set up campaigns for caring our elders.

This kind of stereotyping affects people in late adulthood. Late Adulthood is the preceding age to the old age. So the concern being discriminated in old age is much more among the adults. They try avoid such situations by try doing things which are not good for them.
