Delegation:

In Delegation you leave the decision on the employees and you even don't want to know about the details that would just clutter your brain. The deligation of authority imposes the measure of responsibility and the extent of the authority deligated should be clearly stated.

Self - Managed Team:

Decisions are made within the team rather than handed down from above and sense of authority as against the subordinate is absent. That does'nt mean Self managed team doesn't require leaders. A leader is appointed to guide team through the decision making process.

Style for Delegation:

  • What to Delegate - Clearely commuincate what is expected to be done by employees, clearly spells out the list of responsibilities.
  • Capability of staff members - Before delgating must check and confirm the capability of staff and their interest, and accordingly delegate the work to them.
  • Follow up action - Check occassionlly individual progress to find out the work in progress but leave on them to take their own course for decision making.
  • Appreciation and motivation - Motivation by showing gratitude for good work done and appreciating the employees goes a long way.

Style for Self-Managed Teams-

  • Ability to commuincate and represent the team interest
  • desire to help each member to develop and use their skills
  • a demonstration of concern for each member and the team
  • Knowledge of group processess
  • Maintaining the focus of the team
  • Continous motivation and endless support

  2. Capability - In Delegation, Manager/employer first check the capability of the employee and then delegate the work accordingly whereas to make self managed team, he needs to trained them, improved their skills, problem solving and decision making.
  3. Team Goal - In Delegation, the single person goal is to acheive the same target as delegated whereas it is really difficult to center the Team goal than the individual goal.
  4. Decentralisation - Decentralisation of authority takes place in delegation whereas it is the concern in self-manage team.
