You are thinking about shortening (i.e. crashing) the entire project. The information of the normal job times (i.e.e the minimum job time the job can be crashed to), and the costs needed for shortening each job by one day is provided below (Table 2). You were just provided with a fund of $1,500 (besides the fund of completing the project w/o crashing). The objective is to crash the project as much as possible within $1,500. Under the objective, if there is some fund left that is not usable for crashing the project, you should save it. Show your method of crashing the project.
Table 2 | |||||
Job label | Job description | Immediate predecessor(s) | Normal time (days) | Crash time (days) | Cost to crash the job 1 day |
A | Planning | -- | 2 | 1 | $450.00 |
B | Purchasing | A | 6 | 4 | $300.00 |
C | Excavation | A | 10 | 7 | $250.00 |
D | Sawing | B | 3 | 2 | $100.00 |
E | Placement | C, D | 2 | 1 | $400.00 |
F | Assembly | E | 1 | 1 | -- |
G | Infill | F | 2 | 1 | $430.00 |
H | Outfill | F | 1 | 1 | -- |
I | Decoration | G, H | 3 | 2 | $200.00 |
the method that I have chosen is the critical path method which is the best to shorten the project time as well as cost.
