What are the critiques against the culture of poverty perspective? What do women get paid less than men?
What percentage of low income groups enroll in college?
Is the federal minimum wage enough to keep families out of
poverty?
Who is more likely to die during combat?
1. The culture of poverty theory or explanation is the one that devribes the manner in which different groups, that we consider marginalized, or the victims, are the ones who are actually responsible for their condition. That it is because of their own attitudes and life choices that they have been facing poverty. The criticism of this concept is as follows:
- it does not consider the age long oppression that these groups might have had.m
- it doesn't consider the manner in which prejudices have been formed against these groups.
- it also does not consider that
some or the other form of oppression or prejudices still exist in
the society.
2. The idea of gender pay gap is a reality, even though there are many laws against them. Women have often been seen to be paid less than men, and there are a number if reasons for the same:
- many women are not ready to have flexible work timings, as they have to take care of their household chores.m
- women, might be temporarily
leaving the organization because of a maternity leave, and hence,
organizations have to pay someone else on behalf of her.mthus, they
keep their pay Low.
- bias.
