You are on a lifeboat with 10 other people aboard.  The water surrounding the lifeboat is freezing such that no one would survive in the water.  There is no rescue ship in sight and worse yet, the lifeboat is sinking.  You notice a sign posted that reads “Capacity 10 normal-sized persons.”  Looking around you notice 10 normal-sized persons (including you) and one 400-pound man. No one wants to jump out of the boat, and if nothing is done it will sink leaving all 11 to die. Explain by applying the rules based, ends based and care based approaches. Ultimately, what would you do?

Expert Solution

In the above question It says that. I am on a lifeboat. The water surrounding the life that is freezing such as that no one could survive in the water. There is no rescue ship in sight and worse yet the lifeboat is sinking. Suddenly I noticed sign posted on lifeboat that it has capacity of 10 normal size person, looking around I found that there are 10 normal sized persons including me. But one person is 400 pound man. Now in this situations no one wants to jump out off the boat and if nothing is done, it will sink leaving all 11 persons to die. Everyone is in shock state. No one is getting any idea how to survive their life. Panic situation on lifeboat I asked everyone not to panic and take a deep breath. I asked everyone to square breathing. Square breathing is done in following step:

  1. Inhale deeply for four seconds.
  2. Hold your lungs full for four seconds.
  3. Exhale for four seconds.
  4. Hold your lungs empty for 4 seconds.
  5. To this three to four times and your nerve will settle down, your heart rate will slow down and you will calm down.

There was no floating device so that any person can wear it and float. No life jacket . Suddenly I realised that I can make pants a floating device, I asked the 400 pound man to make his pant a foating device and get into water from this life boat so that the rest of the 10 persons reach the side and i will come back again with lifeboat after droping 9 people, first he apposed but later on he understood and agreed. I told him the steps of making his pant a life jacket, the steps are :

  1. Take off pant.
  2. Tie knots at bottom of each legs.
  3. Whole you pants in the air and then put them down words into water where they will collect Some air in it.
  4. Now the pant started acting as a floating device.

Now the 400 pound man put his pant on his body Which is now floating device, and entered into water. After that I took the life boat and drop 9 people at side and came back and save that 11th person. Like this way life of all the 11 peoples are saved.

Perhaps you recall that when table salt, NaCl, is added to water, the freezing point of water is lowered.
