How does a healthy lifestyle enhance a patient’s outcome? Describe three lifestyle interventions and discuss how they improve behavior management. please cite the answer, if there is no citation the answer is useless
Unhealthy lifestyle choices such as smoking, drug abuse, alcohol and poor diet are significant yet preventable causes of long term health complications. Therefore adopting a good and healthy lifestyle will be helpful for preventing life threatening diseases like Heart attack, Kidney failures etc.Moreover maintaining a good and healthy lifestyle will enhance the patient outcomes.
As said earlier Tobacco, alcohol, physical inactivity and poor diet are among the biggest contributors to most preventable diseases. They are responsible for 42% of deaths.Low physical activity is the most prevalent risk factor for long term health related complications with 95% of the adult population not meeting the recommended minimum 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity.
The four life style behaviours like Tobacco, Alcohol, Physical inactivity and poor diet needs to be targeted to improve the health of an individual and of course health of a Nation.
Good verbal and behavioural communication between patient and nurse is fundamental to behaviour change attempts and outcomes (Robinson et al, 2008). Key communication skills in patient-centred care include ascertaining reasons for accessing healthcare services, finding common ground, providing information and sharing decisions.
According to Researchers there are verbal and non-verbal activities that are associated with patients changing behaviour. These are: empathy; reassurance; encouragement; explanation; addressing patients’ feelings and emotions; increased health education; friendliness; listening; positive reinforcement; being receptive to patients’ questions; and allowing the patient’s point of view to guide the conversation (Beck et al, 2002).
