Please explain the process of an evaluation of on-the-job training, as well as pre-departure training. If there are more ways of doing an evaluation, please cover in detail at least one that is applicable for both on-the-job training and pre-departure training in human resource management.
Training evaluation is a systematic process to analyze if training programs and initiatives are effective and efficient. Trainers use evaluation programs to check whether training programs are aligned with business goals or not.
Training programs basically help with the discovery of training gaps and opportunities in training programs. Training evaluation collects information that can help determine improvements in training programs and help trainers decide if a certain program has to be discontinued.
Steps involved in evaluating the on-job training-
1)Identifying what participants you need for their job-Obviously, you will start out by knowing what you really need to evaluate. An important step, therefore, is to determine a measurable list of skills, knowledge, and abilities needed.
2)Matching session learning objectives with job requirements-Next way is to craft the training program in such a way that it's actually addressing the job needs. Knowledge retention should match the job requirement.
3)Assessing performance during and upon completing the training there's what the actual assessment took place and lets you track L&D progress. For example, a learning objective might be'performing procedure X'and you may ask participants to perform the steps of procedure X in order from first to last. This type of assessment can be repeated over time to test the retention of key learning objectives.
4)Evaluating the training effort over a period of time-Experts recommend having periodic refresher sessions that include follow up evaluations to help determine retention and long term improvement.
Pre-departure training-It is a broad term for a program that briefs soon to be expatriates on what to expect when living and working abroad. It is a personalized training and learning to participate and plan for the challenges they and their family may face when they move abroad.
Steps in pre-departure training-
1)Pre-program assessment and exploration-This includes an assessment of the expatriates family members background like their past experience in foreign, understanding the host country, specific goals, and personal tendencies should shape a customized ex-pat and family training session.
2)Expat and family training program-This stage is designed to increase the assignee's knowledge about the host country, culture, society, values, business culture.
3)Host manager and team culture briefing-This focused on the host country manager and the team with whom the international assignee is working.
4)In country coaching- once the expatriate arrives to another nation,the assignee will receive face-to-face or telephone coaching .
