Is it good enough? Explain the positive and negative contributions
of empathy
Discuss at least 6 positive and 6 negative effects.
Empathy is very much in counselling. It allows the counselor to be in the shoes of his or her client and get to know their life and also helps in building a strong relationship to have an effective theraphy. Clients always want to showcase their feeling infront of the counselor so that they should not judge them and can express their feelings. It is a way in which a client can even get attached to themselves as they gets to know what they were feeling about themselves. Empathy also allows a person to be less self centered as we can understand what others are going through. For a counselor's side they have to work with the clients to get the results of thier actions.
Yes, it is good in the case of counseling as the therapist gets to know his or her client and then decide what to do reagrding them but it might also have a neagtive effect as the client is fully open to someone who he hardly knows.
The positive points of counseling are:
a) It helps to build a trust between the counselor and the client,
b) It helps the client to express whatever is inside them.
c) It helps the couselor to know the client in a better way.
d) It helps the client to have a sup[portive feeling that some one is there to understand them.
e) When the client their feelings, it helps the counselor to explor themselves and get to know knew things about themselves
g) It helps to build a way for communication and also the client feels happy.
Negative points of counseling:
a) Empathy can help to ignite the anger in a person again.
b) This can also make the client feel sad if his or her life is full of sadness.
c) It leads to discloser of a client's personal life.
d) The client may feel exhausted and and it can be draining emotionally as he or she is putting out his feeling.
e) Empathy can also lead to detoriation of relationship as at the time relationships are not in a healthy state so it can allow the client to think more deeply about his or partner.
f) In some cases it been seen that the client is not truthful or he or she is being manipulative.
