The following statements should be included in patient
teaching while taking naproxen enteric-coated tablets.
- Take the medication in the dose prescribed by the doctor.
 
- Don't break the tablet. Breaking the tablet releases small
particles so the drug. They get absorbed quickly and have the
capacity to cause side effects.
 
- Swallow the tablet in the sitting or standing position.
 
- Avoid lying down immediately after taking the pill.
 
- You can take the pill with water and food. Food has no effect
on the absorption.
 
- Swallow the pill with a glass full of water (240 ml).
 
- Don't exceed the dose by 660 mg in 24 hrs.
 
- If you forget to take your dose - take is immediately when you
remember it. If you have approached the timing of your next dose,
just take the next dose. Do not take 2 pills to make up for loss
dose.
 
- If you have some underlying comorbidities, it is advisable for
you to actively inform the doctor about it. You must inform your
doctor about the following things:
- History of an allergic reaction to naproxen
 
- History of an allergic reaction to other NSAIDs ( like
aspirin)
 
- History of cardiac disease.
 
- History of stroke
 
- History of heart failure
 
- History of peptic ulcer.
 
- History of asthma
 
- History of liver or kidney problems.
 
 
- Stop taking the medicine if you develop any of the following:
- Skin rash with itching
 
- Difficulty in breathing
 
- Acute abdominal pain
 
- Yellowish discoloration of the whites of your eye.
 
- Black tarry stools
 
 
Naproxen
Class - Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory
drug.
Mechanism of action- inhibits cyclooxygenase
type 1 and 2 - this reduces the levels of prostaglandins. This
reduces inflammation by reducing inflammatory cell aggregation and
the release of inflammatory cytokines.
