The Union's benefits as a huge industrial power and its leaders' political abilities contributed on quality and winning decisions on the battlefield and eventually a victory in the American Civil War against the Confederates. The Union adoption on winning the war was not emerged all at once. The Northern military plan by 1863 included the five main factors that lead to adoption of a total war strategy:
-- Anaconda plan that targeted the entire blockade all Southern coasts
-- A control on the Mississippi River for the major inland waterway
-- Capturing the Richmond for its capital, to ensure that the command lines of Confederacy's are not disrupted.
-- Shattering the morale of Southern civilian with the destruction and capturing of Atlanta, Savannah, and South Carolina
-- Applying the numerical benefit of Northern troops on engaging the rivals everywhere on breaking the Confederate Army's spirits.
