POPE says that the freedom of worker to unite under common cause into union and bargain for a better life as a counter balance to the influence of unristricted corporate greed is most important.

POPE states that it is critical to protect workers’ fundamental right to join together as a union and bargain for a better future. As the Pope makes clear, it is not only working people, but also entire communities – nations even – that stand to benefit when workers exercise this right.

He also states that when a society moves towards denial and hatred it loses its true conscience. They live in flesh, they live with flesh but they cannot be rules by the desires of the flesh.

Benedict supports the deceptively named Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA). Benedict worries that “deregulation” of labor markets can be hazardous to the interests of workers. He is concerned that the pressures of global competition can diminish the ability of “workers associations” to protect the legitimate interests of workers.

Of course workers should never be forbidden to join voluntary workers associations in support of worker rights. Nor should any government limit the ability of such associations to represent the interests of their members.
