Explain water supply strategies in sustainable design.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Sustainable design is the design which minimises the negative effect on the environment ,health and conditions of the people living in any building by improving the conditions of that place.

one of the main fnction of sustainability is to minimize the use of non renewable resources ,minimise wastes and create healthy and better environment for living.

Water can be used in sustainable form in many ways one of it is the domestic use of water as using instruments or applications which minimize its consumption and also avoid its wasteage.

Water sustainable design may include following features

conservation of water

protection of water

mimimun use of non renewable ernrgy consumption

use of environmental friendly products in design

operation and maintainance shuold be easier to be performed

So in this way water can be made sustainable in many forms by using of the new techniques and various applications which allow minimum wasteage of water and its contamination .

waterless toilets and waterless car washing services are few examples of sustainble water design.

In the design of a city water supply system, three reservoirs are connected by three pipes which meet at the junction. Reservoir A needs to supply 0.0938 m3/s to lower reservoirs B (Elevation 150 m) and C (Elevation 140 m). Pipe 1 is 900 m long and 300 mm in diameter, pipe 2 is a 200 mm diameter pipe 387 m long, and pipe 3 is 200 mm in diameter and 700 m long. The roughness coefficient for all pipes...

You are the water supply manager for an organization that is contracted to supply water to a village with population 3500 people. The water sources is a river and a pump is used to fill a 10000L tank. The turbidity of the water is 4.1 NTU, therefore the manger has to determine the most appropriate amounts (mass) and concentration of chlorine based water treatment chemical and the available chemical is HTH with 60% chlorine a) Work out how many grams...
