The main cause of poverty is the irregularity in the distribution of wealth of a country. Data with respect to the distribution of finance, wealth and assets across people in the United States across different decades gives a strong idea on the underlying cause of poverty. It can be seen that the majority of the country's wealth is enjoyed by 10% of the population. This leaves the 90% population to enjoy limited resources, thereby forcing a few percentages of this 90% to experience poverty.
Another reason for poverty is the lack of a job for the citizens. The U.S is a country where people from different parts of the world migrate and settle. This leads to fierce competition for a vacant job position. The immigrant labor force is much cheaper than the natives and so companies would prefer to hire them more leading to scarcity of jobs among natives and subsequent poverty experienced due to the same.
