is africa ready for the fourth industrial revolution
HELLO THERE, INTERESTING TOPIC THIS BUT I BELIEVE THIS IS SUBJECTIVE TO ONE'S PERSONAL OPINION.
IF YOU WANT TO HERE SOME TRUTHS, let's GO WITH A ROUND OF LOGICAL QUESTIONS AND THEIR TRUTHFUL ANSWERS.
FIRST AND FOREMOST,
QUE.) WHAT IS THE HEART OF FOURTH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION?
ANS.) THE ANSWER TO THAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI).
QUE.) ARE AFRICAN INDUSTRY INCLINED TOWARDS IMPLEMENTING AI?
ANS.) YES AND NO. NOW THE ANSWER IS SO BECAUSE AN INDUSTRIAL SURVEY IN 2019 REVEALED THAT 63% OF THE INDUSTRY WANT TO IMPLEMENT AI ON THEIR WORK ARENA (BOTH IN PRODUCTION AND SOFTWARES) BUT A YEAR LATER IN 2020 THE SAME SURVEY YIELDS 21% NOD FROM THE INDUSTRIAL SECTOR.
SO, ARE AFRICAN INDUSTRY CONFUSED ABOUT IMPLEMENTING AI?
THE ANSWER TO THAT IS NO, THEY ARE NOT CONFUSED ABOUT THEIR WILL OF IMPLEMENTING IT BUT EARLIER THEY THOUGHT THAT THE AI IMPLEMENTATION IS MAINLY TAKING CARE OF SOFTWARE WHICH ARE GETTING CHEAPER AND CHEAPER BUT WHAT THEY LATER CAME TO FOUND OUT WAS THAT FOR MANAGING THESE SOFTWARES, THERE IS A NEED OF SKILL TECHNICIANS AND WORKFORCE WHICH THE INDUSTRY LACKED SEVERELY,
SO, IS AFRICA READY FOR FOURTH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION?
ANSWER TO THAT IS NO,
AFRICA IS FALLING SHORT AT THESE THREE PLACES WHEN IT COMES TO SKILLS TRAINING WITHOUT WHICH THE FASCINATION FOR UPGRADE IN TECHNOLOGY IS A MERE DREAM.
1.) THE SCHOOL EDUCATION DESIGN - The education in the African schools are still designed and oriented for 2nd industrial revolution, for fourth IR, they need to empower students with fascination and passion for this technological updates by including subjects like coding.
2.) labours - The govt. has failed to create promising job growth in there, Hiring and firing is still a very difficult proposition there, Accepting automation at such a place is therefore very difficult because people fear and doubt the states ability to creat job for them if they willingly lose their jobs to automation which is believed to increase the efficiency of work and lead to unshackled growth of the economy.
3.) govt. policies - The state needs to change their policy of providing small incentives to business that hires young people and growing startup and need to set their eye in fixing the steady job opportunities and create a massive boom in the workforce need department and lead to a growing need of skilled manpower with competitive wages.
so, yeah without these measures, Africa is surely not the place which would be experiencing 4th Industrial Revolution no matter how much they may eye it.
