Compare Mild Steel & High tensile steel used in the construction industry

Solutions

Expert Solution

MILD STEEL

1) Mild steel is basically a low carbon steel having a carbon content of 0.1 - 0.25 percent . Due to its low carbon content it is also called as Low Carbon Steel

2) Mild Steel has got very High Ductility property in them , The reason is low carbon content . Low carbon content results in decrease in strength and brittleness but increased Ductility .\

3) Mild steel is used in rolled sections , reinforcing bars etc

4) Ultimate strength of Mild steel Varies from 600 to 800 Mpa .

5) Rusting is Mild steel is very rapid when compared to High strength Steel

High Tensile Steel

1) High tensile Steel is having Carbon content 0.6 -0.8 percent . Due to its more Carbon content it is also referred as Medium Carbon Steel

2) High Strength Steel has low value of ductilty when compared to MS and more Strength . The reason is more Crbon Content

3) Due to its High Strength , they are preferred in prestress concrete since the have to bear high value of losses in the structure .

4) Ultimate Strength of High tensile Steel ranges around 2000 Mpa.

5) High Strength Steel does not catches rusting easily when Compared with MS

Though steel have high tensile strength, detailing is necessary not only for the steel structures but also for the RCC members as it is the translation of all the mathematical expression’s result. For that matter, coin a comprehensive definition for detailing of reinforcement bar (steel).
