2. How might social media lead to more polarization of political opinions? How might it lead to less polarization? What are factors that might mitigate either of these processes? Overall, do you think social media improves political debate?
Answer: Media is considered as the 4th pillar of democracy which means it has immense role in setting the political discourse of the country.
Previously prominent media was print media and TV news channels but with growing reach of Social media among general public ,it has bring revolution in the field of transfer of any news from one part of world to other part,by reducing its pace and speed.
Like any other technology, social media too have its pros and cons.
Various Social media sites like Facebook, Twitter etc has incraesed the reach of common people to higher political authorities.Today on twitter it has become common to see that any person is questioning related authorities for their responsibilities. So it has helped to people to make government and political institutions more ACCOUNTABLE today than before. It has has reduced the gap between government and people in another ways and made people awar about various other ideas.
Cons are also their it has been misused by various IT cells of political parties which try to polarise public opinion on certain matter.
Another probelm is wide spread of fake news.It also polarise political opinions oftenly.
but on the other hand same medial also helps to counter this Polarisation but this works when people are knowledgeable and aware of facts and don't believe on fake news which generate disharmony among communities.
So like any other technology it too have both sides but it depends upon us to don't become victims.hence it is always advisable to use it with more awared approach.
Hope it Helps!
