Discuss the nature of the differences between democratic and non-democratic (authoritarian, totalitarian, etc.) and democratic governments.
Democracy is the best form of government, because the rulers are accountable to the people and must satisfy their needs. People elect their rulers in a democratic government, and have the right to make decisions. Freedom of speech exists, and people enjoy political freedoms.Example: India, USA.
A democratic government is a government which follows the democratic political system. Democracy is a governance structure in which a country's people exercise power either directly or by elected representatives who constitute a governing body.
In the western world representative democracy is the most prevalent type of democracy. This program includes common citizens who elect politicians to serve you. When a democratic election also nominates the chief or the head of a state, then that state is considered a democratic republic.
Direct democracy is a form of government where the people can engage directly in the decision-making process. Electoral mechanisms such as referendums, recall elections and citizens 'initiatives are referred to as instruments of direct democracy although they are primarily used in a representative democracy.
Democratic government: Everyone has equal rights irrespective of
their position and status.
Democratic Government: The people elect the members or the
representatives.
Non-democratic governance The people and their interests are not
accountable to the rulers.
Citizens do not elect their rulers in non-democratic states, so
they have no interest in decision-making.
There is no freedom of expression and people do not possess
fundamental freedoms. Example: Saudi Arabia, Zimbabwe.
A government that is not Democratic is a government that does not obey democracy. A government that is not democratic may be a form of monarchy, oligarchy, dictatorship, anarchy, feudalism, theocracy or some other form of governance. To understand the characteristics of a non-democratic government, let's look briefly at some of these modes of governance. Inequality is the key characteristics of a non-democratic government. The poor people have no equal rights as the wealthy rulers do. The people are government-controlled, and the people have no say in forming government.
Non-Democratic Government: People can't appoint leaders or
change them.
Non-Democratic Government: Not every human being is treated
fairly.
