What is cell divison process

Solutions

Expert Solution

Cell division is the process of division of a cell into daughter cells having same genetic material.

It is of two types

1. Mitosis

2. Meiosis

In interphase the cell copy its DNA

- in prophase the chromosomes gets condensed and compact

Mitotic spindles forms and attch to the kinetochore.

-in metaphase the chromosomes align at metaphase plate that is at the center line.

The two kinetochore attach to spindle fibre of each pole.

--In anaphase centeromere splits into two

Two sister chromatuds pulled towards opposite pole

---In telophase the sister chromatids arrive at the opporite poles and chrimosomes gets decondensed and enveloped by the the nuclear envelope material

Mitotic spindle break down.

Then cytokinesis occurs which divides the cell into two with a set of organelles to each daughter cell.

This was the process of mitosis

Meiosis also occurs in the same fashion but there are two divisions in thisband the daughter cells gets half the number of chromosomes of that of parent cell.

It is used in the formation of gamates.
